Top Cellulite Exercises You Can Do At Home

Watch This Video on Cellulite Exercises

What is Cellulite?

The term cellulite is known as the fatty, unsightly layer of fat cells that have gathered under the surface of the skin causing a dimpling, crater-like appearance to the skin. In order to perform the necessary cellulite exercises that will help eliminate the dimply, orange-peel skin, you must first understand what cellulite is.

Despite the fact that cellulite is an area of fat deposit in the body, it is noted however that the condition is different than those fat deposits in the other areas of the body due to its close proximity to the surface of the skin.

Also, women are much more prone to getting it; studies show that about 90% of women experience it at some point in their life whereas men rarely are exposed to it. Also, there are other factors which make certain women more prone to getting it: these factors are:
  • age
  • gender
  • diet
  • elasticity of the skin
  • and genetics
There are many opinions on how to get rid of cellulite, including but not limited to lasers (cellulaze), lotions and cellulite reduction creams, pills, diets, and cellulite exercises.

Though many of these promise to increase cellulite reduction, the best way is to make a few small changes in your diet as well as your exercise routine. Performing these exercises will aid in balancing your hormone levels (including estrogen), improving blood circulation, and reducing edema or fluid retention.

Cellulite Exercises You Can Do At Home

All of these exercises we will discuss can be done in the comfort of your home, and require very little space or equipment.

You should start by setting aside about 20 minutes per day and perform on a schedule of 3 days per week; we recommend Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Cardio First

Get started by doing some light cardio for about 2 minutes to get the blood circulating. If you have an exercise bike or treadmill, this will be great. Otherwise if you live in a warmer climate, take a walk. After your 2 min warmup, increase your pace for 8 minutes and finish with a 2 minute cool down.

Your total cardio warm-up regimen should be about 12 minutes.

Your Strength Training Exercises

  • Scissors Press

What Is Cellulite? Knowing the Answer Will Help Uncover the Cellulite Treatment Facts

Cellulite is often coined in lay terms as "cottage cheese skin" or "orange peel syndrome" and is the unsightly condition that affects millions of women (and even a few men), leaving a lot of unanswered questions as to which are the best cellulite treatments.

What is Cellulite?

Before discussing which are the most popular cellulite treatments, we must first discuss what cellulite is exactly. Cellulite is the term used for the unsightly appearance of the skin when it displays a puckered, or dimple-like appearance as the result of the pockets in the skin being overrun by adipose tissue (fat). The skin is not just one layer - it has many layers starting with the outer epidermal layer, followed by a deeper dermal layer, and the last layers are composed of fat cells as well as a thin muscle layer.

Many cellulite treatments are designed to address the skin to tighten and firm, similar to ironing out the wrinkles of the skin. Others are designed to minimize the fat contained in the fat pockets so the skin returns to normal. To understand what happens when cellulite occurs, imagine there is a room with four walls that has an elastic-like, stretchy ceiling. This represents one of the fat pockets. The ceiling is represented by the elastic cover. Now imagine that the room is completely filled up with baseballs, without any additional room.

Now imagine that the baseballs doubled in size, and since there is no room to move side to side, they mush push upward, thus stretching out the ceiling, and causing dimples in the top. This is what cellulite is. So when it comes to deciding on a cellulite treatment, it is imperative to know these facts so that you can understand how the treatment is working.

Back to our example, now imagine that the floor is made out of woven rope - this will represent the muscle layer under the skin. When the muscles are weak, they are not needing much nutrition, so they start to slack off and get smaller. If you were to find good exercises that will address this muscle layer, the muscles would need constant nutrition, and feed off of the fat cells, thus keeping them at the normal baseball size in our example above.

Unfortunately, many cellulite treatments are just aimed at the fat cells and the tightening of the skin, so typically users will see the results return after a period of time. The real key is to address these superficial muscles under the skin and keep them healthy, in order to minimize the effects of cellulite.
By understanding this information on what cellulite is and how it affects the body, cellulite treatment can be narrowed down to specific exercises targeting this muscle group.

Best Cellulite Cream - Which Key Ingredients Your Cellulite Removal Creams Should Contain

It is no doubt that you may feel overwhelmed when looking for the best cellulite cream to use. For instance, just by doing a product search on Amazon will bring back hundreds of results on different lotions and creams for cellulite reduction.

What we will discuss here are the key ingredients to look for when purchasing a cellulite cream. We will also discuss other, more natural methods of how to get rid of cellulite.
L'or de la Mer is a Good Cream to Use!

What Ingredients Your Cellulite Cream Should Have
1. Caffeine. Yep, that's right. Not only do you want to get your daily fix from the local coffee shop, but if you choose to use a cream to get rid of cellulite, caffeine should be one of the main ingredients.

Why?

As you know, caffeine is a vasodilator, which opens up the blood vessels and arteries in order to help the body flush out the toxins in the affected areas. The caffeine stimulates the skin to help the body wash away the fat.

2. Retinol A. You may have heard about this ingredient in your facial creams. Retinol A is derived from Vitamin A and is used as a skin firming and toning agent. It works by keeping the elasticity of the skin in tact by repairing collagen fibers in the cellulite areas.

Other Key Ingredients in Top Cellulite Creams

Some other ingredients you will find in popular cellulite creams are
  • Shea Butter - It helps with skin moisturizing
  • Green Tea Extract - helps detoxify and with blood circulation
  • Capsicum - Similar to caffeine, helps as a vasodilator
  • Horsetail Extract - aids in skin firmness
What If You Want To Eliminate Cellulite Naturally?

So maybe you have tried some of the best cellulite creams on the market and found out that the results were not to your liking, as you felt like you were just covering up the problem.

Many experts in cellulite reduction feel as if the lotions and creams are not the ultimate solution and only temporarily solve 'some' of the problems.

Other women may choose to change their diet and exercise routine slightly to get longer lasting cellulite reduction. The good news is that for most women who already have an exercise routine, a few new exercises can be introduced that will help speed up the process!

And regards to diet, just substituting a few different foods can speed up not only cellulite removal, but also with weight loss. Now who doesn't want that?

How To Get Rid Of Cellulite With Your Diet

Learning how to get rid of cellulite is simply a matter of making a few key changes in your dietary habits. The most successful diet changes are done gradually over time so that you are less likely to fail.

We will look at a few different food supplements that you can add to your existing diet that will help you get rid of cellulite. I also suggest doing an easy, targeted exercise routine to speed up the process.
No Cellulite Here!

How Does Changing Your Diet Help With Cellulite Removal?
The best thing you can do to your diet to help with cellulite removal is by increasing your fiber intake. It is no surprise that a high fiber diet is the number one recommendation many diet regimens suggest for optimal physical health.

Fiber not only lowers cholesterol, but it cleans up the system by absorbing toxins, many of which are responsible for cellulite and fat creation. You will also want to increase your sulfur intake.

Go Organic - Your Hormones Depend On It
Last, if it is possible, substitute your fresh foods with organically grown foods, as you will avoid many of the added toxins and pesticides that can be found in non-organic grown foods.

How To Get Rid of Cellulite With Fat Burning Foods
If you want to get rid of cellulite on your thighs and buttocks region, eating high fiber, filling foods will aid in getting rid of the toxins in your body that are helping to keep the cellulite-ridden skin.
Here is a list of foods you can start substituting into your diet to eliminate cellulite:
  • Ground Flaxseed
  • Quinoa
  • Oatmeal
  • Chia Seeds
I recommend adding these to salads, soups, yogurt, cottage cheese, and your other favorite foods. They will fill you up too so you end up eating fewer calories and burning fat in other areas of your body!

Another key nutrient that you will want to add to your diet is sulfur. Here is a list of sulfur rich foods that will aid in eliminating toxins in your body:
  • broccoli
  • cauliflower
  • brussel sprouts
  • radish
  • onion
  • kale
  • pumpkin seeds
  • cabbage
  • spirulina (I recommend a supplement for this one)
These foods aid in the rebuilding of fibrous connective tissue in the skin. This is important in tightening the skin and eliminating the saggy appearance associated with cellulite.
Follow these simple diet tips to increase your overall nutrition and help eliminate the cellulite on your body! Plus, it doesn't take a huge shift in your diet, you can start by simply substituting and adding these ingredients to your existing diet.

How Do You Get Rid Of Cellulite With Exercise?

If you are looking to get rid of cellulite using an exercise routine, you will first want to understand exactly what cellulite is.

First and foremost, cellulite is not a 'thing,' rather it is a word that is used to describe the appearance of the unattractive, dimply skin that is the result of fat pockets just under the layers of skin.
Cellulite forms more frequently in women than in men because of the way that the connective tissues connect in the layers of skin where fat is stored.

Difference Between Men's and Women's Skin

Women, as compared to men, have different hypdermal layers beneath the skin where fat is stored. In women, the walls of the hypodermal layer are vertical (up and down) whereas the walls in men's skin are zig-zagged in fashion. This is why when the fat cells get larger in women's skin, there is more chance for stretching so that the fat pockets are more visible on the surface of the skin.

How Do You Get Rid of Cellulite With Exercise Then?

Since the fat cells in the hypodermal layer become larger, we need a method to target the muscles just below the skin in order to remove cellulite.

The cellulite can be removed with low repetition, gentle muscle stimulation. These types of exercises will be able to target the affected areas and not only tone the muscles, but tighten and lift the skin to make the appearance of cellulite disappear.

Doing your basic exercise machine routines, treadmill exercises, and elliptical machines will not get rid of cellulite! (However, you may still want to do these on occasion for the cardiovascular benefits.)
Instead, get your exercise routine going by doing 10 minutes of cardio, followed by some of these exercises, done by using your body weight and balance to target the affected areas:

1. Goblet or Dumbell Squats - These are deep squats done by holding a heavy weight. For the Goblet variety, hold the weight against your chest otherwise you can hold the dumbbells at your side. These should be done with at least 10 lbs. These will affect the glutes, hamstrings, and thighs.
2. Clock Lunges - Imagine the face of a clock. Now do lunges at 12 o'clock, then 3, 6, and 8 o'clock for the same leg. Then do the same for the other leg for about 3 sets of 15-20 reps.

These 2 exercises are just some of the many examples you can do when finding out the best way to get rid of cellulite with exercise.

The key is to target the affected areas and stop doing so much cardio! Let's get fit ladies!
